NO BARRIERS

There she stood in all her sorrow,

drenched in tears of dreams gone by.

Dreams taken by those who didn’t care.

Youth lost, stolen when she was a young child.

She stared deep into my eyes,

I gestured – she reacted.

She came and collected a hug.

Muslim to Christian we stood

in a long embrace of no barriers,

just friends wishing to belong.

And in that moment

it didn’t matter who she was or I,

we were just simply us.

Friends with no barriers,

and love beat between our hearts

that simply made us human.
